Congratulations to Patty Steck for her accomplishment!

Patty's summary of her experience:“I recently ran in the Susan G. Komen Kansas City Race for the Cure Sunday morning August 14^th at Union Station, along with 30,000 other participants. I began this journey by heading to the registration table to check in, before daybreak I might add, and noticed that the nearby Union Station parking lots were packed with tables and people decorated with pink ribbons. I felt overwhelmed by the participation of people that had the same purpose and passion I did for this cause. My original thoughts and aspirations were to run the distance for my friends at the Johnson County chapter of the IAAP, (International Association of Administrative Professionals) however, I got so much more out of the experience. I actually felt that I was running to save lives of individuals not yet aware they have breast cancer. I knew that with every step I took and each dollar I raised it would bring us closer to a future without breast cancer. I set my original fundraising goal at $300.00 and at the end realized I exceeded that goal by raising $550.00.

I got ready for the run by asking my trainer to set-up a 12 week running program that would assist me to prepare for this race. The start of the program was to run 2 minutes, then walk for 3 minutes for a total of 20 minutes; three times a week. Each week the running time increased while the walking time decreased. The Wednesday before the race, I ran the 5k (3.1 miles) in just over an hour. I was happy that I had completed it without walking, as that was my ultimate goal. The day of the race my time was 44:47, which met my second goal of completing the run in less than 45 minutes.  

I DID IT! Running this race was one of the best experiences ever and exceeding personal goals feels pretty good too!”
